Verse (43) His saying, Exalted is He: {May Allah pardon you, [O Muhammad]; why did you give them permission [to remain behind] until it was clear to you who were truthful and you knew the liars?}

Amr bin Maymun al-Awdi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: There are two things which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did, although he had not been commanded to do them: granting permission to the hypocrites and taking captives, until Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: ﴿‘May Allah pardon you! Why did you grant them leave?’’﴾, and ﴿‘It is not for a prophet to have captives’﴾.
