الْآيَةُ (31) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {اتَّخَذُوا أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَانَهُمْ أَرْبَابًا مِنْ دُونِ اللهِ وَالْمَسِيحَ ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلا لِيَعْبُدُوا إِلَهًا وَاحِدًا لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ سُبْحَانَهُ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ}
Verse (31) His saying, Exalted is He: {They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him}

Hadith 1012
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا الْعَوَّامُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْبَخْتَرِيِّ الطَّائِيُّ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي حُذَيْفَةُ: أَرَأَيْتَ قَوْلَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { اتَّخَذُوا أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَانَهُمْ أَرْبَابًا مِنْ دُونِ اللهِ } - فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ: أَمَا إِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُصَلُّوا لَهُمْ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مَا أَحَلُّوا لَهُمْ مِنْ حَرَامٍ اسْتَحَلُّوهُ، وَمَا حَرَّمُوا عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الْحَرَامِ حَرَّمُوهُ ؛ فَتِلْكَ رُبُوبِيَّتُهُمْ .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Have you seen the statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: ﴿They took their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah﴾? Then Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: They did not prostrate to their scholars and ascetics, but whatever they declared lawful for them, they would take as lawful, and whatever they declared unlawful for them, they would accept as unlawful; and that was their lordship.
