الْآيَةُ (3) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَأَذَانٌ مِنَ اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ إِلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْحَجِّ الأَكْبَرِ}
Verse (3) His saying, Exalted is He: {And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage}

Hadith 1006
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ، قَالَ: الْحَجُّ الْأَكْبَرُ يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ، وَالْحَجُّ الْأَصْغَرُ الْعُمْرَةُ .
Abdullah bin Shaddad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The greater Hajj (Hajj Akbar) is the Day of Sacrifice, that is, the day of Qurbani, and the lesser Hajj (Hajj Asghar) is Umrah.
Hadith 1007
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى، فَسَأَلَهُ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ عَنِ الْحَجِّ الْأَكْبَرِ، قَالَ: هُوَ الَّذِي يُنْحَرُ فِيهِ، وَيُحِلُّ فِيهِ الْحَرَامُ، وَيُوضَعُ فِيهِ الشَّعَرُ .
Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) about the greatest Hajj (Hajj Akbar). He replied: It is the day on which sacrifice is offered, the state of Ihram is ended, and the hair is shaved.
Hadith 1008
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ: سَأَلْنَا عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ الْحَجِّ الْأَكْبَرِ، قَالَ: هُوَ يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ .
We asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) about the greatest Hajj (Hajj Akbar), so he replied: It is the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr).
Hadith 1009
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا ... الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الْأَسَدِيِّ، قَالَ: خَطَبَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ عَلَى جَمَلٍ يَوْمَ الْأَضْحَى، فَقَالَ: الْيَوْمَ النَّحْرُ، وَالْيَوْمَ الْحَجُّ الْأَكْبَرُ .
Abdullah bin Sinan Al-Asadi, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated that Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah, may Allah be pleased with him, delivered a sermon to us on the Day of Sacrifice while riding a she-camel and said: Today is the day of sacrifice, and today is also the day of the greater Hajj.
