الْآيَةُ (158) قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {هَلْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلا أَنْ تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْمَلائِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ رَبُّكَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ لا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ آمَنَتْ مِنْ قَبْلُ أَوْ كَسَبَتْ فِي إِيمَانِهَا خَيْرًا}
Verse (158) His saying, Mighty and Majestic: {Do they await except that the angels should come to them or your Lord should come or that there come some of the signs of your Lord? The Day that some of the signs of your Lord will come, no soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before or had earned through its faith some good}

Hadith 936
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ الْحَبْحَابِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، قَالَ: قَرَأَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَهُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ (يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ لَا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسٌ إِيمَانُهَا) فَلَمْ يُغَيِّرْ، وَكَانَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ قِرَاءَةً يَقْرَؤُهَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ هُوَ: { يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ لا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ آمَنَتْ مِنْ قَبْلُ } . ¤ فَذَكَرْتُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ، فَقَالَ: أَحْسَبُ صَاحِبَكُمْ قَدْ بَلَغَهُ أَمْرٌ أَوْ سَمِعَ أَنَّ مَنْ كَفَرَ بِحَرْفٍ مِنْهُ فَقَدْ كَفَرَ بِهِ كُلِّهِ .
Abu Al-‘Aliyah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man recited this verse before him: «يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ لَا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسٌ إِيمَانُهَا» So he did not object to his recitation, because he would not object to anyone’s recitation. Then Abu Al-‘Aliyah himself recited the verse as follows: ﴿يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ لَا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ آمَنَتْ مِنْ قَبْلُ﴾. The narrator says: I mentioned this to Ibrahim Al-Nakha‘i (may Allah have mercy on him), so he said: I think your companion must have heard, or it has reached him, that whoever denies even a single letter of the Qur’an, it is as if he has denied the entire Qur’an.
Hadith 937
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، قَالَ: نَا أَشْعَثُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: أَلَا هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَنَّ التَّوْبَةَ مَبْسُوطَةٌ مَا لَمْ تَطْلُعِ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا . ؟
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Listen! Do they not hear that the door of repentance is open as long as the sun does not rise from the west?
Hadith 938
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا خَلَفُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { لا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا } - قَالَ: طُلُوعُ الشَّمْسِ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا .
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding Allah the Exalted's statement: "No soul will benefit from its faith" (__QUR_N__): What is meant by this is the rising of the sun from the west.
Hadith 939
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ: { يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ } - قَالَ: طُلُوعُ الشَّمْسِ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the statement of Allah the Exalted: ﴿يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ﴾ "The day when some of the signs of your Lord will come": This refers to the sun rising from the west.
Hadith 940
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ عَسَّالٍ الْمُرَادِيَّ، فَقَالَ لِي: مَا جَاءَ بِكَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ: ابْتِغَاءُ الْعِلْمِ، فَقَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي: إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ لَتَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ رِضًا بِمَا يَفْعَلُ . ¤ فَقُلْتُ: حَكَّ فِي نَفْسِي مِنَ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ، فَهَلْ حَفِظْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا فِيهِ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، كُنَّا إِذَا سَافَرْنَا أُمِرْنَا أَنْ لَا نَخْلَعَ خِفَافَنَا ثَلَاثًا إِلَّا مِنْ جَنَابَةٍ، لَكِنْ مِنْ غَائِطٍ وَبَوْلٍ وَنَوْمٍ . ¤ فَقُلْتُ: هَلْ حَفِظْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْهَوَى شَيْئًا ؟ فَقَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ، فَنَادَاهُ رَجُلٌ كَانَ فِي أُخْرَيَاتِ الْقَوْمِ بِصَوْتٍ لَهُ جَهْوَرِيٍّ أَعْرَابِيٌّ جِلْفٌ جَافٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ ! فَقَالَ لَهُ الْقَوْمُ: مَهْ ؛ فَإِنَّكَ قَدْ نُهِيتَ عَنْ هَذَا ! فَأَجَابَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى نَحْوٍ مِنْ صَوْتِهِ: هَاؤُمْ، أَوْ: هَاؤُ . فَقَالَ لَهُ: الرَّجُلُ يُحِبُّ قَوْمًا وَلَمَّا يَلْحَقُ بِهِمْ ؟ قَالَ: هُوَ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ . ¤ قَالَ زِرٌّ: فَمَا بَرِحَ يُحَدِّثُنِي حَتَّى حَدَّثَنِي أَنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ جَعَلَ بِالْمَغْرِبِ بَابًا عَرْضُهُ سَبْعُونَ عَامًا لِلتَّوْبَةِ، لَا يُغْلَقُ مَا لَمْ تَطْلُعِ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ قِبَلِهِ، فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ } إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: { إِنَّا مُنْتَظِرُونَ } .
Safwan bin Assal al-Muradi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: When I came seeking knowledge, they said: I have heard that Allah’s angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge, out of happiness for what he does. Then I asked them: Have you heard anything from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about wiping over the leather socks (khuffayn)? He replied: Yes, when we were on a journey, we were commanded not to remove our leather socks for three days, except in case of major impurity (janabah), urination, or defilement by dirty water. Then I asked him: Have you heard anything from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about desires (hawa)? He said: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when a Bedouin called out in a loud voice: O Muhammad! So the people said to him: Be quiet! You have been forbidden from this. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, answered the Bedouin in a soft voice: Come here, or come. Then he said: A man loves a people but he is not with them, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A person will be with those whom he loves. Zur further said that Safwan bin Assal told me that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has opened a gate for repentance in the west, whose width is seventy years; this gate will remain open until the Day of Resurrection, until the sun rises from the west. And this is regarding the statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: __QUR_N__ “On the Day when some of the signs of your Lord will come” __QUR_N__, as Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: __QUR_N__ “Indeed, we are waiting” __QUR_N__.
