Qasim bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by some butchers and said: "Who slaughters for you?" They said: "This person." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Do you slaughter for them?" He said: "Yes." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Tell me about such-and-such prayer." He could not answer, so Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) struck him and expelled him from the market, and he also struck the butchers and said: "Will such a person slaughter for you? Even though Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: __QUR_N__ 'And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned.' __QUR_N__"

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Whoever slaughters and forgets to mention the name of Allah, then let him mention the name of Allah, and eat, and not leave it for Satan, provided that he slaughtered according to the natural (Islamic) way.

Malik bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I was riding on my mule and passing by when I reached near a house, where there was a slaughtered goat. So I asked the women around it: Who slaughtered it? They said: Your slave did. I said: By Allah! My slave does not pray! The women said: We taught him and he slaughtered it taking the name of Allah. So I turned back from there and went to Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him about the incident of the women teaching the slave the tasmiya (saying Bismillah). Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Eat it.
