الْآيَةُ (98) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ فَمُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمُسْتَوْدَعٌ}
Verse (98): His (Allah's) saying: {And He it is Who produced you from a single soul, then (for you) a place of dwelling and a place of storage...}

Hadith 892
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: الْمُسْتَوْدَعُ مَا فِي الصُّلْبِ، وَالْمُسْتَقَرُّ: مَا فِي الرَّحِمِ مِمَّا هُوَ حَيٌّ وَمِمَّا قَدْ مَاتَ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: «الْمُسْتَوْدَعُ» means the place of trust, that is, what is in the loins (back), and «الْمُسْتَقَرُّ» means what is in the womb, whether alive or dead.
Hadith 893
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: تَزَوَّجْ يَا سَعِيدُ ! قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَا ذَاكَ فِي نَفْسِي الْيَوْمَ ! قَالَ: أَمَا لَئِنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ لَمَا كَانَ فِي صُلْبِكَ مِنْ مُسْتَوْدَعٍ لَيَخْرُجَنَّ .
Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to me: O Saeed! Get married. I said: Today I do not have the intention for it in my heart. So Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Even if you have said so, still that which is present in your loins as a trust will surely manifest itself.
Hadith 894
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَقُولُ: إِذَا كَانَ أَجَلُ رَجُلٍ بِأَرْضٍ أُثْبِتَ لَهُ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ، فَإِذَا بَلَغَ أَقْصَى أَجْلِهِ - قَضَى أَجَلَهُ - قُبِضَ، فَتَقُولُ الْأَرْضُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ: يَا رَبِّ، هَذَا مَا اسْتَوْدَعْتَنِي .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When a person's death is destined in a certain land, then some need is created for him there. Then, when the term of his life is completed, he fulfills his time and passes away. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, that land will say: O my Lord! This is the one whom You entrusted to me.
Hadith 895
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: مُسْتَوْدَعُهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَمُسْتَقَرُّهَا فِي الرَّحِمِ .
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The place of deposit, that is, the place of trust, is in the world, and the place of settlement, that is, the place of staying, is in the womb.
Hadith 896
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا أَرَادَ اللهُ قَبْضَ عَبْدٍ بِأَرْضٍ جَعَلَ لَهُ بِهَا حَاجَةً .
A man narrated from his people that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, wants to seize the soul of a servant in a certain land, He creates a need for him there.
Hadith 897
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا مَنْصُورٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ { فَمُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمُسْتَوْدَعٌ } .
Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, used to recite this verse as: ﴿فَمُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمُسْتَوْدَعٌ﴾ meaning, thus there is a place of settlement and a place of deposit (trust).
Hadith 898
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الْحَذَّاءُ، قَالَ: نَا عَمَّارٌ الدُّهْنِيُّ، عَنْ حَمَّادٍ الْمَدِينِيِّ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، قَالَ: دَعَانِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ فَقَالَ: اكْتُبْ ؛ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِلَى فُلَانٍ حَبْرِ تَيْمَاءَ، سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ، فَإِنِّي أَحْمَدُ إِلَيْكَ اللهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ . فَقُلْتُ: تَبْدَؤُهُ فَتَقُولُ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ . ¤ اكْتُبْ: سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ، أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَحَدِّثْنِي عَنْ مُسْتَقَرٍّ وَمُسْتَوْدَعٍ، وَعَنْ جَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ . قَالَ: فَذَهَبْتُ بِالْكِتَابِ إِلَى الْيَهُودِيِّ فَأَعْطَيْتُهُ إِيَّاهُ، فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِكِتَابِ خَلِيلِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ! فَذَهَبَ بِي إِلَى بَيْتِهِ فَفَتَحَ أَسْفَارًا لَهُ كَثِيرَةً، فَجَعَلَ يَطْرَحُ تِلْكَ الْأَسْفَارَ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْهَا، قُلْتُ: مَا شَأْنُكَ ؟ قَالَ: هَذِهِ أَسْفَارٌ كَتَبَتْهَا الْيَهُودُ - حَتَّى أَخْرَجَ سِفْرَ مُوسَى، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: الْمُسْتَوْدَعُ الصُّلْبُ، وَالْمُسْتَقَرُّ الرَّحِمُ . ثُمَّ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: { وَنُقِرُّ فِي الْأَرْحَامِ مَا نَشَاءُ } { وَلَكُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَى حِينٍ }، قَالَ: هُوَ مُسْتَقَرُّهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمُسْتَقَرُّهُ فِي الرَّحِمِ، وَمُسْتَقَرُّهُ تَحْتَ الْأَرْضِ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ أَوْ إِلَى النَّارِ . ¤ ثُمَّ نَظَرَ فَقَالَ: جَنَّةٌ عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ - قَالَ: سَبْعُ سَمَاوَاتٍ وَسَبْعُ أَرَضِينَ، يُلْفَقْنَ كَمَا تُلْفَقُ الثِّيَابُ بَعْضُهَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ . فَقَالَ: هَذَا عَرْضُهَا، وَلَا يَصِفُ أَحَدٌ طُولَهَا . ¤ ¤
Kuraib (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) called me and said: Write; From the servant of Allah, Ibn Abbas, to so-and-so, the scholar of Tayma, peace be upon you. I praise Allah, besides whom there is no deity. I said: Do you write peace at the beginning? He replied: Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (the Source of Peace). Then he said: Write; Peace be upon you, to proceed! Inform me about the “mustaqarr” and “mustawda‘”, and tell me about that Paradise whose width is as the heavens and the earth.
So I took this letter to that Jew and gave it to him. When he saw the letter, he said: Welcome to the letter of my friend among the Muslims! Then he took me to his house and began to take out many of his books, throwing them aside and not paying attention to them. I said: What are you doing? He said: These are books written by the Jews. Until he took out the Torah, looked at it, and said: “Mustawda‘” is the loins, and “mustaqarr” is the womb. Then he recited this verse: __QUR_N__ “And We settle in the wombs whom We will” __QUR_N__ and __QUR_N__ “And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time” __QUR_N__. He said: The “mustaqarr” of man is in the womb, then on the earth, and then beneath the earth, until he is transferred to Paradise or Hell.
Then he looked and said: Paradise whose width is as the heavens and the earth, meaning the seven heavens and the seven earths, which will be joined together like garments are joined together. He said: This is its width, and no one can describe its length.
