Hadith 874
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَمَّنْ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: نَزَلَتْ " وَهُمْ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ وَيَنْأَوْنَ عَنْهُ " فِي أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؛ كَانَ يَنْهَى أَنْ يُؤْذَى، وَيَنْأَى عَمَّا جَاءَ بِهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the verse: "And they forbid [others] from it and keep away from it" was revealed about Abu Talib; he used to prevent others from harming the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and himself stayed away from the message brought by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 875
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَشْيَاخِهِ، قَالَ: كَانَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ يَنْهَى عَنْ قَتْلِهِ وَيَنْأَى عَنِ اتِّبَاعِهِ .
It is narrated from some elders that Abu Talib used to prevent the killing of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and himself stayed away from following him (peace be upon him).
