Sunan Sa'id

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {فَعَسَى اللهُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِالْفَتْحِ أَوْ أَمْرٍ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَيُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا أَسَرُّوا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ نَادِمِينَ} .
His (Allah's) saying: {But perhaps Allah will bring conquest or a decision from Him, and they will become, over what they have been concealing within themselves, regretful}

Hadith 765
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، سَمِعَ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ يَقْرَأُ: (فَعَسَى اللهُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِالْفَتْحِ أَوْ أَمْرٍ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَيُصْبِحُ الْفُسَّاقُ عَلَى مَا أَسَرُّوا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ نَادِمِينَ)، قَالَ عَمْرٌو: فَلَا أَدْرِي كَانَتْ قِرَاءَةً، أَمْ فَسَّرَ .
Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to recite: “Perhaps Allah will bring about victory or a command from Himself, and the defiantly disobedient will become, over what they concealed within themselves, regretful.” ‘Amr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I do not know whether this was his recitation or his explanation.
