Sunan Sa'id

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {فَإِنْ جَاءُوكَ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ أَوْ أَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَإِنْ تُعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ فَلَنْ يَضُرُّوكَ شَيْئًا} .
His (Allah's) saying: {So if they come to you, judge between them or turn away from them. And if you turn away from them, they will not harm you at all}

Hadith 746
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَا: إِذَا ارْتَفَعَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ إِلَى حُكَّامِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِنْ شَاءَ حَكَمَ بَيْنَهُمْ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُمْ، فَإِنْ حَكَمَ حَكَمَ بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ .
Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) and Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If the People of the Book come to the Muslim rulers for judgment, then the ruler may choose to judge between them or may choose to turn away from them. But if he judges, then he should judge according to the law revealed by Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
