Ibrahim al-Nakha'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: A man says a word in a gathering by which Allah becomes pleased, so Allah's mercy descends upon him and surrounds those around him as well. And sometimes a man says a word in a gathering by which Allah becomes angry, so Allah's wrath descends upon him and that wrath also surrounds those around him.

Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When a person says something that pleases Allah, mercy descends upon him and those around him; and if someone says something that angers Allah, then His wrath comes upon him and also upon those present in the gathering. Then he recited the verse: "And He has already revealed to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah [being denied and ridiculed], do not sit with them until they engage in another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them." [Qur'an 4:140]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bilal bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A man speaks a word that pleases Allah, and he does not even think that it will reach so far, but Allah, because of that word, writes His pleasure for him until the Day of Resurrection.
