قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَإِنِ امْرَأَةٌ خَافَتْ مِنْ بَعْلِهَا نُشُوزًا أَوْ إِعْرَاضًا فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَا أَنْ يُصْلِحَا بَيْنَهُمَا صُلْحًا وَالصُّلْحُ خَيْرٌ} .
His (Allah's) saying: {And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them—and settlement is best}

Hadith 701
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، أَنَّ رَافِعَ بْنَ خَدِيجٍ تَزَوَّجَ ابْنَةَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُطَلِّقَهَا، فَقَالَتْ: لَا تُطَلِّقْنِي، وَأَمْسِكْنِي، وَاقْسِمْ لِي مَا بَدَا لَكَ أَنْ تَقْسِمَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَإِنِ امْرَأَةٌ خَافَتْ مِنْ بَعْلِهَا نُشُوزًا أَوْ إِعْرَاضًا فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَا أَنْ يُصْلِحَا بَيْنَهُمَا صُلْحًا }، فَجَرَتِ السُّنَّةُ بِأَنَّ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا كَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَكَبُرَتْ وَكَرِهَهَا، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُطَلِّقَهَا، فَصَالَحَتْهُ عَلَى صُلْحٍ، فَلَهُ أَنْ يُمْسِكَهَا، وَيَقْسِمَ لَهَا مَا شَاءَ .
It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) married the daughter of Muhammad bin Maslamah. Then he wanted to divorce her, so the woman said: "Do not divorce me, keep me in your marriage and fix for me whatever maintenance you wish." So Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: __QUR_N__ "And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them." __QUR_N__ Thus, it became the Sunnah that if a woman is in a man's marriage and she becomes old and the husband dislikes her and wants to divorce her, then if the woman makes reconciliation, the man can keep her and fix for her whatever he wishes.
Hadith 702
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: أُنْزِلَتْ فِي سَوْدَةَ وَأَشْبَاهِهَا: { وَإِنِ امْرَأَةٌ خَافَتْ مِنْ بَعْلِهَا نُشُوزًا أَوْ إِعْرَاضًا } قَالَ: ذَلِكَ أَنَّ سَوْدَةَ بِنْتَ زَمْعَةَ قَدْ أَسَنَّتْ فَفَرِقَتْ أَنْ يُفَارِقَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَضَنَّتْ بِمَكَانِهَا مِنْهُ، وَعَرَفَتْ مِنْ حُبِّ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَائِشَةَ وَمَنْزِلَتِهَا مِنْهُ، فَوَهَبَتْ يَوْمَهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، فَقَبِلَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) that this verse: “And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion...” (__QUR_N__) was revealed concerning Lady Sawdah bint Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with her) and women like her, because Lady Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) had become elderly and she feared that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) might separate from her, and she wished to retain her position. She had also realized the love of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for Lady Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and her status. So Lady Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) gifted her day with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Lady Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted this.
