قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَلا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ لِلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِمَّا اكْتَسَبُوا وَلِلنِّسَاءِ نَصِيبٌ مِمَّا اكْتَسَبْنَ وَاسْأَلُوا اللهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ إِنَّ اللهَ كَانَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمًا} .
His (Allah's) saying: {And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah of His bounty. Indeed, Allah is ever, of all things, Knowing}

Hadith 623
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، قَالَ: نَا خُصَيْفٌ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَلا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ } زَعَمَ أَنَّ النِّسَاءَ سَأَلْنَ الْجِهَادَ، فَقُلْنَ: وَدِدْنَا أَنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ جَعَلَ لَنَا الْغَزْوَ، فَنُصِيبُ مِنَ الْأَجْرِ مَا يُصِيبُ الرِّجَالُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَلا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ } .
Ikrimah, may Allah have mercy on him, in the explanation of this verse: ﴿وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ﴾, says that the women asked about jihad and said: "We wish that Allah would also grant us the opportunity for jihad so that we too may obtain reward like men." Upon this, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: ﴿وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ﴾ (And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you excel over others).
Hadith 624
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ: قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ: يَغْزُو الرِّجَالُ وَلَا نَغْزُو، وَإِنَّمَا لَنَا نِصْفُ الْمِيرَاثِ، فَنَزَلَتْ: { وَلا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ } إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ، وَنَزَلَتْ: { إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ } إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ .
Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Men perform jihad and we do not perform jihad, and we also receive only half the share in inheritance." Upon this, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: ﴿وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ﴾ (And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others). Also, this verse was revealed: ﴿إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ﴾ (Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, and the believing men and believing women...) [سورہ الاحزاب: 35].
