قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَّهَاتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُمْ وَعَمَّاتُكُمْ وَخَالاتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُ الأَخِ وَبَنَاتُ الأُخْتِ وَأُمَّهَاتُكُمُ اللاتِي أَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُمْ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَأُمَّهَاتُ نِسَائِكُمْ وَرَبَائِبُكُمُ اللاتِي فِي حُجُورِكُمْ مِنْ نِسَائِكُمُ اللاتِي دَخَلْتُمْ بِهِنَّ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا دَخَلْتُمْ بِهِنَّ فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَحَلائِلُ أَبْنَائِكُمُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ أَصْلابِكُمْ وَأَنْ تَجْمَعُوا بَيْنَ الأُخْتَيْنِ إِلا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ إِنَّ اللهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا}
His (Allah's) saying: {Forbidden to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, daughters of your brother, daughters of your sister, your milk-mothers who nursed you, your milk-sisters, mothers of your wives, your stepdaughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in—but if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you—and the wives of your sons who are from your loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred. Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful}

Hadith 600
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ حَيَّانَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: سَبْعٌ صِهْرٌ، وَسَبْعٌ نَسَبٌ، وَيَحْرُمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ مَا يَحْرُمُ مِنَ النَّسَبِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Seven relationships are by marriage, and seven by lineage, and what is made unlawful by breastfeeding is the same as what is made unlawful by lineage."
Hadith 601
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حُدَيْجُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِيَاسٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ بَنِي شَمْخٍ، فَرَأَى بَعْدُ أُمَّهَا، فَأَعْجَبَتْهُ، فَذَهَبَ إِلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً، وَلَمْ أَدْخُلْ بِهَا، ثُمَّ أَعْجَبَتْنِي أُمُّهَا، فَأُطَلِّقُ الْمَرْأَةَ وَأَتَزَوَّجُ أُمَّهَا ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَطَلَّقَهَا، وَتَزَوَّجَ أُمَّهَا، فَأَتَى عَبْدُ اللهِ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَسَأَلَ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالُوا: لَا يَصْلُحُ، ثُمَّ قَدِمَ، فَأَتَى بَنِي شَمْخٍ، فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِي تَزَوَّجَ أُمَّ الْمَرْأَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تَحْتَهُ ؟ قَالُوا: هَاهُنَا، قَالَ: فَلْيُفَارِقْهَا، قَالُوا: وَقَدْ نَثَرَتْ لَهُ بَطْنَهَا ؟ ! قَالَ: فَلْيُفَارِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا حَرَامٌ مِنَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ .
A man married a woman from Banu Shumakh, then he saw her mother and liked her. He asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "I have married a woman but have not yet had relations with her, then I liked her mother. Can I divorce her and marry her mother?" He replied: "Yes." So he divorced her and married her mother. Later, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Madinah and asked the Companions, and they said: "This marriage is not permissible." Then he returned and went to Banu Shumakh and asked: "Where is the man who married the mother of the woman who was previously in his marriage?" They told him that he was there. So he said: "He must separate from her immediately." The people said: "But she has become pregnant!" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Even so, he must separate from her immediately, because she is forbidden to him by Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
Hadith 602
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحٍ أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: ائْتُوا بَنِي شَمْخٍ فَسَلُوهُمْ .
Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about this matter, so he said: "Go to Banu Shumakh and ask them."
Hadith 603
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً، فَطَلَّقَهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بِهَا، حَتَّى مَاتَتْ، أَوْ طَلَّقَهَا، أَيَتَزَوَّجُ بِهَا ابْنُهُ ؟ قَالَ: فِيهِ قَتَلَ دَاوُدُ ابْنَهُ أُدِينَ .
Ibn Abi Najih (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: If a man marries a woman and divorces her before consummation, or he dies, can his son marry her? He replied: "In this very matter, Dawud (peace be upon him) killed his son Adin."
Hadith 604
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ { وَأُمَّهَاتُ نِسَائِكُمْ } قَالَ: هِيَ مُبْهَمَةٌ، فَأَرْسِلُوا مَا أَرْسَلَ اللهُ، وَاتَّبِعُوا مَا بَيَّنَ اللهُ، وَرَخَّصَ فِي الرَّبِيبَةِ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ دَخَلَ بِأُمِّهَا، وَكَرِهَ الْأُمَّ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ .
Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the verse: "And [also prohibited to you are] the mothers of your wives," so he said: "This is an absolute prohibition. Therefore, leave ambiguous what Allah has left ambiguous, and follow what He has made clear. Allah has allowed leniency in the case of a stepdaughter if her mother has not been consummated with, but He has made the stepmother absolutely forbidden in all circumstances."
