قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَمَنْ كَانَ غَنِيًّا فَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْ وَمَنْ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ}
His (Allah's) saying: {But if the guardian is self-sufficient, let him abstain [from taking a fee]; and if he is poor, let him take according to what is reasonable}

Hadith 566
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، وَعِكْرِمَةَ - فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَمَنْ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ } قَالَا: يَضَعُ يَدَهُ .
Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And whoever is poor, let him eat in a reasonable manner" said: He should restrain his hand.
Hadith 567
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ: يَسْتَسْلِفُهُ، فَإِذَا أَيْسَرَ رَدَّهُ .
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says: He takes it on credit, then when he becomes well-off, he returns it.
Hadith 568
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: إِنَّ الْمَعْرُوفَ لَيْسَ بِلُبْسِ الْكَتَّانِ وَلَا الْحُلَلِ، وَلَكِنْ مَا سَدَّ الْجُوعَ وَوَارَى الْعَوْرَةَ .
Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Indeed, ma'ruf (goodness) does not mean wearing linen or expensive clothes, rather it is that which satisfies hunger and covers a woman.
Hadith 569
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ: إِنْ كَانَ وَلِيُّ الْيَتِيمِ أَكَلَ مَكَانَ قِيَامِهِ عَلَيْهِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ .
Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If the guardian of an orphan eats in a reasonable manner in return for taking care of him.
Hadith 570
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: يَضَعُ الْوَصِيُّ يَدَهُ مَعَ أَيْدِيهِمْ، وَلَا يَلْبَسُ الْعِمَامَةَ فَمَا فَوْقَهَا .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The executor should place his hand with their hands, and he should not wear a turban or anything better than that.
Hadith 571
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ فِي حِجْرِي يَتِيمًا، أَفَأَشْرَبُ مِنَ اللَّبَنِ ؟ قَالَ: إِنْ كُنْتَ تَرُدُّ نَادَّتَهَا، وَتَلُوطُ حَوْضَهَا، وَتَهْنَأُ جَرْبَاهَا فَاشْرَبْ غَيْرَ مُضِرٍّ بِنَسْلٍ، وَلَا نَاهِكٍ فِي حَلْبٍ .
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A man asked him: "There is an orphan under my care, may I drink (milk)?" He said: "If you let his animal graze, clean its trough, and give relief to its scabby parts, then drink, provided that it does not harm the offspring and there is no decrease in milking."
Hadith 572
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، وَسُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْعُرَنِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مِمَّ أَضْرِبُ يَتِيمِي ؟ قَالَ: مِمَّا كُنْتَ ضَارِبًا مِنْهُ وَلَدَكَ، قَالَ: فَأُصِيبُ مِنْ مَالِهِ ؟ قَالَ: غَيْرَ مُتَأَثِّلٍ مَالًا، وَلَا وَاقٍ مَالَكَ بِمَالِهِ .
It is narrated from Hasan al-Urani, may Allah have mercy on him: A man said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! With what should I discipline my orphan?" He (the Prophet) said, "With the same thing with which you discipline your own son." He said, "May I take from his wealth?" He (the Prophet) said, "Yes, provided that he does not accumulate wealth and does not protect his own wealth with the orphan's wealth."
Hadith 573
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا يُونُسُ، وَمَنْصُورٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي وَلِيِّ الْيَتِيمِ: قَالَ: إِذَا كَانَ مُحْتَاجًا يَضَعُ يَدَهُ مَعَ يَدِ الْيَتِيمِ .
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say about the guardian of an orphan: If he is in need, he should put his hand together with the hand of the orphan.
Hadith 574
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَبِيدَةَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَمَنْ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ } قَالَ: هُوَ قَرْضٌ، أَلَا تَرَى إِلَى قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { فَإِذَا دَفَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فَأَشْهِدُوا عَلَيْهِمْ } . ؟
Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Ubaidah (may Allah have mercy on him) about the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: “And whoever is poor, let him eat in a reasonable manner.” He said: This is a loan. Do you not see the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: “And when you deliver their wealth to them, have witnesses over them”?
Hadith 575
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا حَجَّاجٌ، عَمَّنْ سَمِعَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، وَمُجَاهِدًا، يَقُولَانِ ذَلِكَ .
Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) and Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said the same.
