قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَلا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِثْمًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ}
His saying, Exalted is He: {And let not those who disbelieve think that Our granting them respite is good for them. We only give them respite so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment.}

Hadith 546
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ: الْمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ وَالْكَافِرِ، ثُمَّ تَلَا: { وَلا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِثْمًا } { وَمَا عِنْدَ اللهِ خَيْرٌ لِلأَبْرَارِ } ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّ الْكَافِرَ مَا عَاشَ كَانَ أَشَدَّ لِعَذَابِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ .
Muhammad bin Ka'b, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Death is better for both the believer and the disbeliever. Then he recited this verse: ﴿And let not those who disbelieve think that Our granting them respite is good for themselves. We only grant them respite so that they may increase in sin﴾ ﴿And what is with Allah is better for the righteous﴾. Then he said: The longer the disbeliever lives, the more severe his punishment will be on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 547
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا فَرَجُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنْ لُقْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ قَالَ: مَا مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ إِلَّا الْمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ، وَمَا مِنْ كَافِرٍ إِلَّا الْمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يُصَدِّقْنِي، فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ: { وَمَا عِنْدَ اللهِ خَيْرٌ لِلأَبْرَارِ } { وَلا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِثْمًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ } .
Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is no believer for whom death is not better, and there is no disbeliever for whom death is not better. Whoever does not believe me, then indeed Allah the Exalted says: “And what is with Allah is better for the righteous.” “And let not those who disbelieve think that Our giving them respite is good for themselves; We only give them respite so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment.”
