قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ قَاتَلَ مَعَهُ رِبِّيُّونَ كَثِيرٌ فَمَا وَهَنُوا لِمَا أَصَابَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَمَا ضَعُفُوا وَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا وَاللهُ يُحِبُّ الصَّابِرِينَ}
His saying, Exalted is He: {And how many a prophet [fought and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allah loves the steadfast.}

Hadith 528
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، قَالَ: نَا خُصَيْفٌ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ وَأَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ - فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ قَاتَلَ مَعَهُ رِبِّيُّونَ كَثِيرٌ } - يَقُولُ: قَاتَلَ أَلَا تَرَى أَنَّهُ يَقُولُ: { فَمَا وَهَنُوا لِمَا أَصَابَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ } الْآيَةَ .
Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the statement of Allah the Exalted: “And how many a prophet fought with him large bands of godly men” (__QUR_N__): Many followers fought along with their prophets, and they are saying: “So they did not lose heart for what befell them in the way of Allah” (so whatever befell them in the way of Allah, they did not despair).
Hadith 529
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَتَّابٌ، عَنْ خُصَيْفٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: مَا سَمِعْنَا قَطُّ أَنَّ نَبِيًّا قُتِلَ فِي الْقِتَالِ .
Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: "We have never heard that any prophet was killed in battle."
Hadith 530
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا عَوْفٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، وَأَنَا عَوْفٌ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنَّهُمَا كَانَا يَقْرَآنِ: { قَاتَلَ مَعَهُ } .
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) and Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) used to recite ﴿قَاتَلَ مَعَهُ﴾.
Hadith 531
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا عَوْفٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ - فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { قَاتَلَ مَعَهُ رِبِّيُّونَ كَثِيرٌ } - قَالَ: فُقَهَاءُ، عُلَمَاءُ، قَالَ: وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ هِيَ الْجُمُوعُ الْكَثِيرَةُ .
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding Allah the Exalted's statement: ﴿قَاتَلَ مَعَهُ رِبِّيُّونَ كَثِيرٌ﴾: These were jurists and scholars. And Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: These were many groups.
Hadith 532
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، قَالَ: الْجُمُوعُ الْكَثِيرَةُ .
Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "These were many groups."
Hadith 533
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ مُزَاحِمٍ - فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { قَاتَلَ مَعَهُ رِبِّيُّونَ كَثِيرٌ } - قَالَ: الرِّبَّةُ الْوَاحِدَةُ أَلْفٌ .
Dahhak bin Muzahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the statement of Allah the Exalted: ﴿QĀTALA MA‘AHU RIBBIYYŪNA KATHĪR﴾: In one ribṭah there are one thousand individuals.
