His saying, Exalted is He: {And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins—and who can forgive sins except Allah?—and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.}

Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The meaning of Allah the Exalted’s statement ﴿And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves﴾ is: They committed two sins; indecency is one sin and wronging themselves is another sin.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There are two verses in the Book of Allah that when a servant recites them and seeks forgiveness from Allah the Exalted, Allah forgives him: “And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins—and who forgives sins except Allah?” __QUR_N__ (And when they commit an evil deed or wrong themselves, they remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins, and who can forgive sins except Allah?) And the saying of Allah: “And whoever does evil or wrongs himself then seeks forgiveness from Allah, he will find Allah Forgiving, Merciful.” __QUR_N__ (And whoever does evil or wrongs himself, then seeks forgiveness from Allah, he will find Allah Forgiving, Merciful.)
