قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَقَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ آمِنُوا بِالَّذِي أُنْـزِلَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَجْهَ النَّهَارِ وَاكْفُرُوا آخِرَهُ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ}
His saying, Exalted is He: {And a faction of the People of the Scripture said, "Believe in that which was revealed to the believers at the beginning of the day and reject it at its end that perhaps they will return [i.e., abandon their religion]."}

Hadith 502
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ - فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { آمِنُوا بِالَّذِي أُنْـزِلَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَجْهَ النَّهَارِ وَاكْفُرُوا آخِرَهُ } - قَالَ: قَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ: آمَنُوا مَعَهُمْ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ أَوَّلَ النَّهَارِ، وَارْتَدُّوا آخِرَهُ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ مَعَكُمْ .
Abu Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the statement of Allah, the Exalted: ﴿Believe in that which was sent down to those who believe at the beginning of the day, and disbelieve at its end﴾: The Jews said: Believe at the beginning of the day in what these Muslims say, and at the end, revert (to disbelief), so that they may return with you.
