قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْـزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ ابْتِغَاءَ الْفِتْنَةِ وَابْتِغَاءَ تَأْوِيلِهِ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ تَأْوِيلَهُ إِلا اللهُ وَالرَّاسِخُونَ فِي الْعِلْمِ يَقُولُونَ آمَنَّا بِهِ كُلٌّ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّنَا وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلا أُولُو الأَلْبَابِ}
His saying, Exalted is He: {It is He who has sent down to you the Book; in it are verses that are precise—they are the foundation of the Book—and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.}

Hadith 492
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْأَبَحُّ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: تَلَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: { هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْـزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ }، إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: { وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلا أُولُو الأَلْبَابِ }، قَالَ: فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِيهِ، فَهُمْ أُولَئِكَ، فَاحْذَرُوهُمْ .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: ﴿He it is Who has sent down to you the Book; in it are verses that are clear, they are the foundation of the Book, and others are ambiguous. As for those in whose hearts is deviation﴾ up to ﴿And none will remember except men of understanding﴾, then he said: When you see those who argue about this verse, then they are the ones whose misguidance has been mentioned, so beware of them.
Hadith 493
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حُدَيْجُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: { مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ }، قَالَ: ثَلَاثُ آيَاتٍ مِنْ سُورَةِ الْأَنْعَامِ: { قُلْ تَعَالَوْا أَتْلُ مَا حَرَّمَ رَبُّكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ } .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The verse ﴿مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ﴾ refers to three verses from Surah Al-An'am: ﴿قُلْ تَعَالَوْا أَتْلُ مَا حَرَّمَ رَبُّكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ﴾.
