قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {لِلَّذِينَ يُؤْلُونَ مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ تَرَبُّصُ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ فَإِنْ فَاءُوا فَإِنَّ اللهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ * وَإِنْ عَزَمُوا الطَّلاقَ فَإِنَّ اللهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
His saying, Exalted is He: {For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives is a waiting time of four months; but if they return [to normal relations]—then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. * But if they decide on divorce—then indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.}

Hadith 375
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَقْرَأُ: (لِلَّذِينَ يُقْسِمُونَ مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ تَرَبُّصُ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ) ; (وَإِنْ عَزَمُوا السَّرَاحَ)
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to recite this verse as follows: «لِلَّذِينَ يُقْسِمُونَ مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ تَرَبُّصُ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ» and «وَإِنْ عَزَمُوا السَّرَاحَ».
Hadith 376
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: عَزِيمَةُ الطَّلَاقِ: انْقِضَاءُ الْأَرْبَعَةِ الْأَشْهُرِ، وَالْفَيْءُ: الْجِمَاعُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The intention of divorce occurs after the completion of the four-month period, and reconciliation is through intercourse.
