قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَمَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ * قَدْ نَرَى تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَاهَا فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنْتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ}
His saying, Exalted is He: {And Allah would not let your faith go to waste. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful. * We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muhammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward it [in prayer].}

Hadith 223
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، نَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ: صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا، حَتَّى نَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي الْقِبْلَةِ: { وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنْتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ } فَنَزَلَتْ بَعْدَمَا صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَانْطَلَقَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَمَرَّ بِأُنَاسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ، فَحَدَّثَهُمُ الْحَدِيثَ، فَوَلَّوْا وُجُوهَهُمْ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ .
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for sixteen months, until the verse was revealed regarding the Qiblah: __QUR_N__ “And wherever you are, turn your faces towards it (the Ka‘bah).” This verse was revealed after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had prayed, so a man from among the people went out from there and passed by some of the Ansar who were praying. He informed them of this news, so they immediately turned their faces towards the Ka‘bah.
Hadith 224
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حُدَيْجُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، قَالَ: صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِبَلَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا، ثُمَّ أُمِرَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ قِبَلَ الْكَعْبَةِ، فَخَرَجَ رَجُلٌ، فَرَأَى نَاسًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، يُصَلُّونَ قِبَلَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ، فَقَالَ: أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي قِبَلَ الْكَعْبَةِ، فَتَحَوَّلُوا جَمِيعًا قِبَلَ الْكَعْبَةِ .
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed facing Bayt al-Maqdis for sixteen months, then he was commanded to pray facing the Ka‘bah. A man went out and saw some people from the Ansar who were still praying facing Bayt al-Maqdis, so he said: I bear witness that I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying facing the Ka‘bah, so all of them turned towards the Ka‘bah.
Hadith 225
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، فِي قَوْلِهِ: { وَمَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ } قَالَ: صَلَاتَكُمْ نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ .
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the statement of Allah the Exalted: ﴿وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ﴾: What is meant by this is the prayers you performed facing Bayt al-Maqdis.
Hadith 226
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ قَمْطَةَ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو وَنَظَرَ إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ مِمَّا يَلِي الْمِيزَابَ، فَقَالَ: هَذِهِ الَّتِي قَالَ اللهُ: { فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَاهَا } .
Yahya bin Qamta (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) looking towards the Ka'bah from near the Mizab and he said: This is the one about which Allah said: __QUR_N__ "So We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased."
Hadith 227
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ } قَالَ: تِلْقَاءَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ
Abu Al-Aliyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said about Allah the Exalted’s statement: ﴿فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ﴾: That is, towards the Sacred Mosque.
