Abdur Rahman bin Yazid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Ammarah bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) that he heard from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): When the companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and their faith were mentioned, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The matter of Muhammad (peace be upon him) was absolutely clear to those people who saw him. By Him besides whom there is no deity! No believer has brought such faith that is more virtuous than faith in the unseen. Then he recited these verses: "Alif Lam Meem. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah, who believe in the unseen..." [سورہ البقرہ: 1-3].

Harith bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "We hope for reward from Allah for that in which you, O companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him), have preceded us, that is, you had the honor of seeing the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)." So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We hope for reward from Allah for your faith, which you brought in Muhammad (peace be upon him) even though you did not see him."
