الْآيَةُ (204) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ}Verse (204) His saying, Exalted is He: {So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy}
Hadith 978

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، قَالَ: كَانُوا يَتَلَقَّفُونَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا قَرَأَ شَيْئًا قَرَؤُوا مَعَهُ، حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي الْأَعْرَافِ: { وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا } .
Muhammad bin Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the Qur'an, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would begin to recite along with him, until this verse was revealed in Surah Al-A'raf: "And when the Qur'an is recited, listen to it and be silent."
