قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ وَلا يَجِدْ لَهُ مِنْ دُونِ اللهِ وَلِيًّا وَلا نَصِيرًا * وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُولَئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلا يُظْلَمُونَ نَقِيرًا} .His (Allah's) saying: {It will not be in accordance with your desires or those of the People of the Book. Whoever does wrong will be recompensed for it, and he will not find besides Allah a protector or a helper. And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer—those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged, [even as much as] the speck on a date seed}
Hadith 693

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ } قَالَ: احْتَجَّ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَأَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ، فَقَالَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ: نَحْنُ أَهْدَى مِنْكُمْ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ }، فَأَفْلَجَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ بِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ: { وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ } ... إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ .
Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding this verse: “It is not by your wishes nor the wishes of the People of the Book” that there was an argument between the Muslims and the People of the Book. The Muslims said: We are more rightly guided than you. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse, and then made the Muslims prevail with these words: “And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer...” until the end of the verse.
