قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {لا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فَضَّلَ اللهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ دَرَجَةً وَكُلا وَعَدَ اللهُ الْحُسْنَى وَفَضَّلَ اللهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا} .His (Allah's) saying: {Not equal are those believers remaining [at home]—other than the disabled—and the mujahideen, [who strive and fight] in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred the mujahideen through their wealth and their lives over those who remain [behind] by degrees. And to both Allah has promised the best [reward]. But Allah has preferred the mujahideen over those who remain [behind] with a great reward}
Hadith 681

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَغَشِيَتْهُ السَّكِينَةُ، فَوَقَعَتْ فَخِذُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى فَخِذِي، فَمَا وَجَدْتُ ثِقَلَ شَيْءٍ أَثْقَلَ مِنْ فَخِذِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ: اكْتُبْ، فَكَتَبْتُ فِي كَتِفٍ: { لا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ } ... إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ، فَقَامَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ - وَكَانَ رَجُلًا أَعْمَى - فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ فَضِيلَةَ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْجِهَادَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ؟ قَالَ خَارِجَةُ: قَالَ زَيْدٌ: فَلَمَّا قَضَى ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ كَلَامَهُ غَشِيَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ السَّكِينَةُ، فَوَقَعَتْ فَخِذُهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي، فَوَجَدْتُ مِنْ ثِقَلِهَا فِي الْمَرَّةِ الثَّانِيَةِ كَمَا وَجَدْتُ مِنْ ثِقَلِهَا فِي الْمَرَّةِ الْأُولَى، ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: اقْرَأْ يَا زَيْدُ، فَقَرَأْتُ: { لا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ } فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: { غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ } ... الْآيَةَ كُلَّهَا، قَالَ: يَقُولُ زَيْدٌ: أَنْزَلَهَا اللهُ وَحْدَهَا، فَأَلْحَقْتُهَا، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى مُلْحَقِهَا عِنْدَ صَدْعٍ فِي الْكَتِفِ .
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when tranquility (sakinah) descended upon him, and his thigh fell upon my thigh. I never felt anything heavier than the thigh of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, when the tranquility ended, he said: "Write." So I wrote this verse on a shoulder blade: "Those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled, are not equal to those who strive in the way of Allah" [to the end of the verse]. Then Ibn Umm Maktum, who was blind, stood up, and when he heard the virtue of the Mujahideen, he said: "O Messenger of Allah! What about those believers who do not have the strength for jihad?" Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When Ibn Umm Maktum finished his words, tranquility descended again upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and his thigh again fell upon my thigh. I felt the same weight as the first time. Then, when it ended, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Zaid! Recite." So I recited: "Those of the believers who sit (at home)..." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Except those who are disabled," the whole verse. Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: This phrase was revealed separately by Allah, so I joined it. And by Him in Whose hand is my soul, it is as if I am seeing the joining of it in the gap of the place where I wrote it on the shoulder blade.
