قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللهُ أَرْكَسَهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا} .His (Allah's) saying: {What is [the matter] with you [that you are] two groups concerning the hypocrites, while Allah has made them fall back [into error] for what they earned}
Hadith 663

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ، قَالَ: خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ: مَنْ لِي مِمَّنْ يُؤْذِينِي وَيَجْمَعُ فِي بَيْتِهِ مَنْ يُؤْذِينِي ؟ فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ: إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْأَوْسِ قَتَلْنَاهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مِنْ إِخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْخَزْرَجِ أَمَرْتَنَا فَأَطَعْنَاكَ، فَقَامَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، فَقَالَ: مَا بِكَ يَا ابْنَ مُعَاذٍ طَاعَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَلَقَدْ تَكَلَّمْتَ مَا هُوَ مِنْكَ، فَقَامَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ فَقَالَ: إِنَّكَ يَا ابْنَ عُبَادَةَ مُنَافِقٌ، وَتُحِبُّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ، فَقَامَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ فَقَالَ: اسْكُتُوا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، فَإِنَّ فِينَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَهُوَ يَأْمُرُنَا فَنُنَفِّذُ أَمْرَهُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللهُ أَرْكَسَهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا } .
It is narrated from Ibn Sa'd bin Mu'adh that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people and said: Who will save me from those who cause me harm and give shelter in their homes to those who trouble me? So our master Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If that person is from Aws, we will kill him, and if he is from our brothers, the Khazraj, then you command us, we will obey you. Upon this, our master Sa'd bin 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Ibn Mu'adh! What is the matter with you? The obedience to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is in its place, but you have said something that does not befit you. Then our master Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Ibn 'Ubadah! You are a hypocrite and you love the hypocrites. At this, our master Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O people! Be silent, indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is among us, whatever he commands us, we will carry it out. Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: ﴿فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللَّهُ أَرْكَسَهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا﴾.
