Hadith 59

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: نُبِّئْتُ أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ كَانَ يَقُولُ: لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا تُبَلِّغُنِيهِ الْإِبِلُ أَحْدَثَ عَهْدًا بِالْعَرْضَةِ الْآخِرَةِ مِنِّي لَأَتَيْتُهُ . أَوْ: لَتَكَلَّفْتُ أَنْ آتِيَهُ . !
Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I have been informed that Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "If I knew that there was a person who was closer than me to the last presentation of the Qur'an (i.e., who had learned the recitation of the Qur'an from the Prophet ﷺ according to the last time it was recited), and if camels could take me to him, I would certainly go to him. Or I would make every possible effort to reach him."
