قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {أَوْ كَالَّذِي مَرَّ عَلَى قَرْيَةٍ وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَى عُرُوشِهَا قَالَ أَنَّى يُحْيِي هَذِهِ اللهُ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا فَأَمَاتَهُ اللهُ مِائَةَ عَامٍ ثُمَّ بَعَثَهُ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: {قَالَ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ اللهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ}His saying, Exalted is He: {Or [consider] such [an example] as the one who passed by a township which had fallen into ruin. He said, "How will Allah bring this to life after its death?" So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years; then He revived him.} To His saying: {He said, "I know that Allah is over all things competent."}
Hadith 435

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَقْرَأُ: { اعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ } وَيَقُولُ: لَمْ يَكُنْ بِأَفْضَلَ مِنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ اللهُ: { اعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ }
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to recite this verse: “I know that Allah is over all things competent” and would say: He (i.e., the person) was not superior to Ibrahim (peace be upon him); Allah the Exalted said: “I know that Allah is over all things competent.”
