حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا الْعَوَّامُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا صَالِحٍ مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ: «كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نَشْتَرِكَ ثَلَاثَةً، فَيَجْلِبُ وَاحِدٌ، وَيَبِيعُ الْآخَرُ، وَيَغْزُو الْآخَرُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ» قَالَ: فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا صَالِحٍ فِي ذَلِكَ الْعَامِ مُرَابِطًا، فَقَالَ: «هَذِهِ نَوْبَتِي»
It is narrated from Hazrat Awam bin Hawshab, may Allah have mercy on him: Abu Salih said: Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, used to command us that three men should work together. One should do business. One should sell. One should fight in the way of Allah. Abu Salih himself also participated in jihad that year.
