حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَأَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ شِعَارُ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ: عَبْدَ اللَّهِ، وَشِعَارُ الْأَنْصَارِ: عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him): The slogan of the Muhajirun was: "Abdullah." And the slogan of the Ansar was: "Abdur Rahman."
Brief Explanation
Hajjaj ibn Arta’ah → Weak in memorization, and he is also a mudallis (one who practices tadlis). Hasan al-Basri → from Samurah → It is well-known about him that he narrates mursal (with a missing link) in the chain, and Hasan’s hearing from Samurah is questionable. The hadith scholars (such as Imam al-Bukhari, Ibn Ma’in, etc.) have differed regarding the continuity (ittisal) of the narration al-Hasan ‘an Samurah.
