حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَلَفُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: انْطَلَقَ بِي أَنَسٌ إِلَى عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ فِي أَرْبَعِينَ رَاكِبًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، فَفَرَضَ لَنَا، فَلَمَّا رَجَعْنَا مَعَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِفَجِّ النَّاقَةِ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، فَدَخَلَ فُسْطَاطَهُ، فَقَامَ الْقَوْمُ فَصَلُّوا إِلَى رَكْعَتَيْهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ أُخْرَاوَيْنِ، فَقَالَ لِابْنِهِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ: مَا يَصْنَعُ هَؤُلَاءِ؟ قَالَ: يُضِيفُونَ إِلَى رَكْعَتَيْكَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ: قَبَّحَ اللَّهُ الْوُجُوهَ، وَاللَّهِ مَا أَصَابَتِ السُّنَّةَ، وَلَا قَبِلَتِ الرُّخْصَةَ؛ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ قَوْمًا يَتَعَمَّقُونَ فِي الدِّينِ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنْهُ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): He went to Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan with forty Ansar. Abd al-Malik fixed stipends for all of them. On their return, when they reached Fajj al-Naqah, Anas performed two rak‘ahs of prayer. The people stood up and began to perform two more rak‘ahs. Anas said: "May Allah ruin their faces; they neither adopted the Sunnah nor accepted the concession." I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Some people will be excessive in religion and will leave the religion just as an arrow leaves the prey."
