حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَسَمَ بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ قَسْمًا، فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: " اعْدِلْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَعْدِلْ، فَقَالَ: «وَيْلَكَ، وَمَنْ يَعْدِلُ إِنْ لَمْ أَعْدِلْ؟» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: دَعْنِي أَضْرِبُ عُنُقَهُ، قَالَ: لَا، إِنَّ هَذَا وَأَصْحَابًا لَهُ يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرْآنَ مَا يَعْدُو تَرَاقِيَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed wealth at Ji‘irrana. A man came and said, "O Muhammad, be just." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Woe to you! If I do not act justly, then who will?" Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Allow me to strike his neck." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No, people like him will recite the Qur'an but it will not go beyond their throats; they will exit the religion just as an arrow passes through its prey."
