حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ شُرَحْبِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ، مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " اشْحَذْ سَيْفَكَ , فَقِيلَ لَهُ: وَمَا ذَاكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: «قَدْ قُذِفَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمُ الْوَهْنُ، وَنَزَعَ مِنْ قُلُوبِ عَدُوِّكُمُ الرُّعْبَ» قَالُوا: وَبِمَ ذَاكَ قَالَ: «بِحُبِّكُمُ الدُّنْيَا وَكَرَاهِيَتِكُمُ الْمَوْتَ، وَطُوبَى لِمَنْ خَرَسَ لِسَانُهُ، وَبَكَى عَلَى خَطِيئَتِهِ، وَوَسِعَهُ بَيْتُهُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him): He said, "Sharpen your sword." It was asked: "Why, O Abu Abdullah?" He replied, "Cowardice has been placed in your hearts and fear has been removed from the hearts of your enemies." It was asked: "Why is that?" He said, "Because of love for the world and dislike of death." Glad tidings are for the one whose tongue remains silent, who weeps over his sins, and for whom his house is sufficient.
