حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " إِذَا خَرَجَ الرُّومِيُّ بِالْأَسِيرِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَلَا يَحِلُّ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ أَنْ يَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى الْكُفْرِ، وَلْيُفَادُوهُ بِمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا؛ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {وَإِنْ يَأْتُوكُمْ أُسَارَى تُفَادُوهُمْ} [البقرة: 85] "
Saiduna Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "If the Romans take a Muslim captive, then it is forbidden for the Muslims to return him to disbelief; rather, they should pay ransom for him with whatever is possible. Allah the Exalted has said: «وَإِنْ يَأْتُوكُمْ أُسَارَى تُفَادُوهُمْ»."
