Hadith 3949

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَوْ عَنِ ابْنِ الْأَقْمَرِ، قَالَ: وَسَمِعْتُهُ مِنَ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْأَقْمَرِ، قَالَ: أَغَارَتِ الْخَيْلُ بِالشَّامِ، فَأَدْرَكَتِ الْعِرَابُ فِي يَوْمِهَا وَأَدْرَكَتِ الْكَوَادِنُ ضُحَى الْغَدِ، وَعَلَى الْخَيْلِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ هَمْدَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْمُنْذِرُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْصَةَ، فَقَالَ: لَا أَجْعَلُ مَا أَدْرَكَ مِنْهَا مِثْلَ الَّذِي لَمْ يُدْرِكْ، فَفَضَّلَ الْخَيْلَ، فَكَتَبَ فِي ذَلِكَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ: «هَبِلَتِ الْوَادِعِيَّ أُمُّهُ، لَقَدْ أَذْكَرَتْ بِهِ، أَمْضُوهَا عَلَى مَا قَالَ»
Ibn Al-Aqmar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In Syria, the horses reached the enemy during the day, and the mule-bred horses arrived at noon the next day. So a man from Himyar, Mundhir bin Abi Himsah, said: "I will not consider them equal." Thus, he gave preference to the horses, and he wrote about this to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: "May his mother weep for him, he has done absolutely right, act accordingly."
