Hadith 3890

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجُوَيْرِيَةِ، عَنْ مَعْنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ: بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَا وَأَبِي وَجَدِّي، وَخَاصَمْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَأَفْلَحَنِي، وَخُطِبَ عَلَيَّ فَأَنْكَحَنِي، قَالَ مَعْنٌ: «لَا تَحِلُّ غَنِيمَةٌ حَتَّى تُقَسَّمَ، وَلَا يَحِلُّ نَفْلٌ حَتَّى يُقَسَّمَ عَلَى النَّاسِ حَفَّةً وَاحِدَةً، فَإِذَا قُسِمَ حَلَّ لِي أَنْ أُعْطِيَكَ»
Sayyiduna Ma'n bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I, my father, and my grandfather—all three of us pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I brought a case before him, and he judged in my favor, and he also arranged my marriage. Then he said: "Spoils of war and voluntary gifts are not lawful until they are distributed equally among everyone."
