Hadith 3821

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: لَمَّا بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُعَاذًا إِلَى الْيَمَنِ قَالَ لَهُ: «إِنْ أَمْكَنَكَ اللَّهُ مِنْ فُلَانٍ فَحَرِّقْهُ بِالنَّارِ» فَلَمَّا مَضَى مُعَاذٌ دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ: «إِنْ أَمْكَنَكَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ فَاضْرِبْ عُنُقَهُ، فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يُعَذِّبَ بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ»
When the Prophet (ﷺ) sent Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) to Yemen, he said: "If you gain power over so-and-so, then burn him in the fire." Then he called him back and said: "Killing is (permissible), but punishment with fire is Allah's right."
