حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّهُ قَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ ابْنُ أَخِيهِ فِي غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا فَقَالَ: «لَعَلَّكَ حَرَقْتَ حَرْثًا؟» قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «لَعَلَّكَ غَرَّقْتَ نَخْلًا؟» قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «لَعَلَّكَ قَتَلْتَ امْرَأَةً أَوْ صَبِيًّا؟» قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «لِتَكُنْ غَزْوَتُكَ كَفَافًا»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked his nephew about the expedition: "Did you burn the fields?" He said: Yes. He asked: "Did you drown the date palms?" He said: Yes. He asked: "Did you kill a woman or a child?" He said: Yes. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Your expedition was of no benefit."
