Hadith 38

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَتِيقٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْحَسَنَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَتَعَلَّمُ الْعَرَبِيَّةَ ؛ لِيُقِيمَ بِهَا كَلَامَهُ، وَيُقِيمَ بِهَا الْقُرْآنَ ! فَقَالَ: لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ ؛ فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يَقْرَأُ الْآيَةَ، فَيَعْيَا بِوَجْهِهَا، فَيَهْلِكُ " .
I asked Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) about a person who learns the Arabic language in order to correct his speech and recitation of the Qur'an, so he said: "There is no harm in it, because sometimes a man recites a verse and, due to not understanding its meaning, he is destroyed."
