Hadith 3773

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ حِطَّانَ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ. . . . . لَهُ مِنْ مِصْرَ مِنْهُمْ أَمْرَدُ، بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ بَلْهِيبَ عَهْدٌ، وَأَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ لَمَّا سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ كَتَبَ إِلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ «فَأَمَرَ أَنْ يُخَيِّرَهُمْ فَإِنْ دَخَلُوا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ، فَذَاكَ، وَإِنْ كَرِهُوا فَارْدُدْهُمْ إِلَى قُرَاهُمْ»
When Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) received the news that some people had come from Egypt to Balahib under a treaty, he wrote to Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) instructing him to give them the choice of either entering Islam or returning to their villages.
