حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ: " خَرَجْنَا فِي جَيْشٍ نَحْوَ فَارِسَ فِيهِمْ عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، وَمِعْضَدٌ الْعِجْلِيُّ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ النَّخَعِيُّ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ، فَحَاصَرْنَا قَصْرًا، وَكَانَ مَعَنَا صَاحِبٌ لَنَا مَرِيضٌ، فَحَفَرْنَا لَهُ قَبْرًا، فَرَأَى يَزِيدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ كَأَنَّهُ بِغُزَيْلٍ أَبْيَضَ حَتَّى دُفِنَ فِي ذَلِكَ الْقَبْرِ، وَكَانَ يَزِيدُ أَبْيَضَ خَفِيفًا فَجَعَلَ يَتَعَرَّضُ الْقَصْرَ، فَأَصَابَهُ حَجَرٌ فَقَتَلَهُ، فَجِئْنَا بِهِ، فَدَفَنَّاهُ فِي ذَلِكَ الْقَبْرِ، وَخَرَجَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عُتْبَةَ يَتَعَرَّضُ لِلْقَصْرِ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ بَيْضَاءُ جَدِيدَةٌ، فَقَالَ: مَا أَحْسَنَ تَحَدُّرَ الدَّمِ عَلَى هَذِهِ فَأَصَابَهُ حَجَرٌ، فَقَتَلَهُ فَتَحَدَّرَ الدَّمُ عَلَى جُبَّتِهِ، فَدَفَنَّاهُ، وَخَرَجَ مِعْضَدٌ يَتَعَرَّضُ لِلْقَصْرِ فَأَصَابَهُ حَجَرٌ، فَشَجَّهُ، فَجَعَلَ يَمْسَحُهَا بِيَدِهِ، وَيَقُولُ: إِنَّهَا لَصَغِيرَةٌ، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَيُبَارِكُ فِي الصَّغِيرَةِ، فَمَاتَ مِنْهَا فَدَفَنَّاهُ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him): We set out with an army towards Persia. Among them were Alqamah bin Qais, Mu’addad ‘Ajli, Yazid bin Mu’awiyah Nakha’i, and Amr bin Utbah bin Firqad. We besieged a fortress. There was a sick companion with us, and a grave was dug for him. Yazid bin Mu’awiyah saw in a dream that a white goat was being buried in that grave. Then Yazid went near the fortress, and a stone struck him which killed him. We buried him in that same grave. Then Amr bin Utbah went near the fortress; he was wearing a new white cloak. He said: “How beautiful will be the sight of blood flowing on this.” Then a stone struck him as well, which killed him. Blood flowed on his cloak. We buried him. Then Mu’addad went near the fortress, and a stone struck his head. He said: “This is a small wound; Allah puts blessing even in small things.” Then he died from that wound, and we buried him.
