حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ، أَنَّ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ أَبَانَ بْنِ أَبِي حُدَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا خَرَجَ إِلَى بَدْرٍ أَرَادَ سَعْدُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ وَأَبُوهُ أَنْ يَخْرُجَا جَمِيعًا، فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَمَرَهُمَا أَنْ يَخْرُجَ أَحَدُهُمَا، فَاسْتَهَمَا، فَخَرَجَ سَهْمُ سَعْدٍ، فَقَالَ: أَتُؤْثِرُنِي بِهَا يَا بُنَيَّ؟ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: إِنَّهَا الْجَنَّةُ، وَلَوْ كَانَ غَيْرَهَا لَآثَرْتُكَ بِهِ، فَخَرَجَ سَعْدٌ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُتِلَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ، ثُمَّ قُتِلَ خَيْثَمَةُ مِنَ الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sulayman bin Aban (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Badr, both Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Khaythamah (may Allah be pleased with him) and his father wanted to go. This matter was reported to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said that one of the two should go. Lots were drawn, and Sa'd's name came out. The father said, "Son! Let me go." Sa'd replied, "This is Paradise; if it were any other matter, I would have given you preference." Then Sa'd set out with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and was martyred at Badr. Then Khaythamah was martyred the following year on the day of Uhud.
