حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ الْغِفَارِيِّ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ الْغِفَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ، اعْقِلْ مَا أَقُولُ لَكَ: لَعَنَاقٌ تَأْتِي رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أُحُدٍ ذَهَبًا يَتْرُكُهُ وَرَاءَهُ، يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ، اعْقِلْ مَا أَقُولُ لَكَ: إِنَّ الْمُكْثِرِينَ هُمُ الْأَقَلُّونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلَّا مَنْ قَالَ كَذَا وَكَذَا، اعْقِلْ يَا أَبَا ذَرِّ مَا أَقُولُ لَكَ: إِنَّ الْخَيْلَ مِنْ نَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ثَلَاثًا "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr! Understand, giving a Muslim the gift of a single goat is better than leaving behind gold equal to Mount Uhud, and on the Day of Resurrection, those with much wealth will be few, except those who spend their wealth like this and like that, and there is goodness in the forehead of the horse."
Brief Explanation
Abu al-Aswad al-Ghifari and al-Nu'man al-Ghifari, both narrators, are of unknown status (majhool al-haal). However, the statements of this hadith (in meaning) are established in authentic ahadith with different wording: the condemnation of those who hoard wealth is mentioned in al-Bukhari and Muslim. The subject of goodness in the forelocks of horses is established from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. That is, the contents of the text are supported by other authentic ahadith.
