بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَغْزُو بِالْجُعْلِChapter on what is reported regarding a man fighting for payment
Hadith 3539

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا فَرَجُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ، الرَّجُلُ يَغْزُو وَيَأْخُذُ الْجُعْلَ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ , أَطَيِّبٌ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: «مَثَلُ ذَلِكَ مَثَلُ أُمِّ مُوسَى أَرْضَعَتْ وَلَدَهَا وَأَخَذَتْ أَجْرَهَا»
Someone asked Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with them): "Is it permissible for a person to perform jihad and take wages from his people?" He replied: "This is like the example of the mother of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him); she used to breastfeed her child and take wages for it."
