حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ _ إِنْ كَانَ قَالَهُ _ «جِهَادُ الْكَبِيرِ وَالضَّعِيفِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ الْحَجُّ وَالْعُمْرَةُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said (or may have said): "The jihad of the elderly, the weak, and the woman is Hajj and Umrah."
Brief Explanation
This hadith is authentic in terms of its chain; all the narrators are trustworthy and well-known, and none of them is subject to any recognized criticism. However, in the text of the hadith, the words appear: "In kana qalahu" meaning "if the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said this," which is a sign of doubt in the hadith, i.e., the narrator is not certain that these words are from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. This expression occasionally appears in the narration of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu when he is uncertain about the wording. Some hadith scholars, for this reason, consider it mu‘allaq (suspended) or mawquf (stopped), but if the chain is authentic (as it is here), then the text is acceptable, especially when its meaning is also supported by other authentic texts. The meaning of the text: «بزرگ، کمزور اور عورت کا جہاد، حج اور عمرہ ہے» This meaning is also established from other authentic narrations, such as: from Aisha radi Allahu anha, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: «جهادكن الحج » (Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 2901, authentic)
