Hadith 3494

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: جَاءَ الْفَتْحِيُّونَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، وَحُوَيْطِبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى يَسْتَأْذِنُونَ عَلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَأَخَّرَ فِي إِذْنِهِمْ، فَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: دُعِيَ الْقَوْمُ وَدُعِيتُمْ فَأَبْطَأْتُمْ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالُوا: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَا لَنَا عِنْدَكَ إِلَّا مَا نَرَى؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ، لَيْسَ إِلَّا مَا تَرَوْنَ» قَالُوا: فَإِنَّا نَطْلُبُ مَا هُوَ أَرْفَعُ مِنْ هَذَا. فَغَزَوْا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا
The conquering Companions came to the court of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and they were granted permission after some delay. They complained about this, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What you see, that is all there is." Then they went out for jihad and were martyred.
