Hadith 3485

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا فَرَجُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، قَالَ: نا الْأَزْهَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَرَازِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ يَنْزِعُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {ثُمَّ أَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتَابَ الَّذِينَ اصْطَفَيْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا فَمِنْهُمْ ظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مُقْتَصِدٌ وَمِنْهُمْ سَابِقٌ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ} [فاطر: 32] أَلَا إِنَّ سَابِقَنَا: أَهْلُ جِهَادِنَا، أَلَا وَإِنَّ مُقْتَصِدَنَا: أَهْلُ حَضَرِنَا، إِلَّا وَإِنَّ ظَالِمَنَا: أَهْلُ بَدْوِنَا، وَكَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِذَا نَزَعَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ قَالَ: «إِلَّا إِنَّ سَابِقَنَا سَابِقٌ، وَمُقْتَصِدَنَا نَاجٍ، وَظَالِمَنَا مَغْفُورٌ لَهُ»
While reciting the verse «ثُمَّ أَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتَابَ الَّذِينَ اصْطَفَيْنَا», Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Our forerunners are the people of jihad, the moderate ones are the city dwellers, and the wrongdoers are the villagers." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Our forerunner has attained salvation, the moderate one has also attained salvation, and the wrongdoer has been forgiven."
