Hadith 3484

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: نا أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {مَا كَانَ لِأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ} [التوبة: 120] الْآيَةَ كُلَّهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَالَّذِي بَعَثَنِي بِالْحَقِّ لَوْلَا ضُعَفَاءُ النَّاسِ مَا كَانَتْ سَرِيَّةٌ إِلَّا كُنْتُ فِيهَا»
When this verse was revealed: «مَا كَانَ لِأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ», the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "By Him Who sent me with the truth, if it were not for the weak people, I would have participated in every expedition."
Brief Explanation
This is a connected chain of narration and there is no weakness in it. Although the name of the Companion (sahabi) has not been mentioned, since all the Companions (radi Allahu anhum) are upright (‘udul), this is therefore a narration with a sound chain of transmission (sahih al-isnad). The chain is sound, and the text is also supported by corroborating evidences (shawahid).
