Hadith 3477

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ: نا مُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَا قَعَدْتُ عَنْ سَرِيَّةٍ تَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَبَدًا، وَلَكِنْ لَا أَجِدُ سَعَةً، وَلَا يَجِدُونَ قُوَّةً فَيَتْبَعُونِي، وَلَا تَطِيبُ أَنْفُسُهُمْ أَنْ يَقْعُدُوا بَعْدِي» وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ «خِلَافَ سَرِيَّةٍ»
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul! If I did not fear hardship for the believers, I would never stay behind from any expedition (military campaign) set out in the way of Allah. But (at this time) I do not have enough means, nor do they (i.e., the Companions) have the strength to go out with me, and their hearts do not accept that they remain behind me." And Ibn Abi Al-Zinad (may Allah have mercy on him) said at the end of the narration: "Khilaf Sariyyah" (i.e., staying behind from any expedition was against nature and desire).
Brief Explanation
Abdur Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad – He is truthful (saduq), but according to the major hadith scholars, there is some weakness in his narration, especially in the narrations from outside Madinah.
About Abdur Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad:
Ibn Ma'in: "He is not among those whose narration is relied upon; his hadith is written."
Ahmad ibn Hanbal: "His hadith is considered weak when he narrates from other than the people of Madinah."
Nasa'i: "He is not strong."
Therefore, this chain is of the level of hasan li ghayrihi (good due to supporting narrations).
About Abdur Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad:
