Hadith 3448

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا مُجَالِدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: نا الشَّعْبِيُّ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ خَاصَمَ امْرَأَتَهُ أُمَّ عَاصِمٍ فِي ابْنِهِ مِنْهَا إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ _ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا _ فَقَضَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ لِأُمِّهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «عَلَيْكَ نَفَقَتُهُ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ»
Al-Shabi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) disputed with his wife Umm Asim regarding their son, and the matter was taken to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled to hand over the child to his mother, and then said: "His (the child's) maintenance is your responsibility until he reaches maturity."
